Training session - all behaviour is communication
Training session for carers of autistic adults. Delivered by Sarah Barratt, an Educational Psychologist and carer of an autistic adult.
Communication between people, particularly people of different neurotypes can be complex and sometimes create significant misunderstandings. This makes sense, given that only 7% of what we communicate is the words we use. So how do we reach and establish common understandings when much of our communication is through our behaviour?

Training session - PDA: a misunderstood profile of autism
Training session for carers of autistic adults. Delivered by Sarah Barratt, an Educational Psychologist and carer of an autistic adult.
From the outside it looks like won't and feels like defiance, while from the inside it is experienced as can't, often activating a fight-flight, survival response. The threat is in demand, demands that are both self-imposed and required by others. How can one using a trauma informed parenting style, create a low demand life for the PDAer?

Training session - a view of autism through a neuro-diversity affirming lens
Training session for carers of autistic adults. Delivered by Sarah Barratt, an Educational Psychologist and carer of an autistic adult.
As the neurominority, Autistic individuals live in a world designed for the neuromajority. Our lived experience is uniquely different and often perceived through a deficit lens. This lack of awareness creates ignorance, leading to judgement and misunderstanding. Embracing a neurodiversity affirming lens gives an inside out view of the Autistic world and will support validate the Autistic experience.
