Young adult carers are young people aged 16–25 who care, unpaid, for a family member or friend with an illness or disability, mental health condition or an addiction.

Who is a young adult carer?

You might be looking after someone close to you who needs help and support on a regular basis.

Although caring can be positive and rewarding, we at Carers of West Lothian understand it can also be stressful and challenging. If you are a young adult carer, we want you know that we are here to support you too.

Support can be access to information and advice, access to Time to Live funds, access to counselling services and support with future planning. If you are a young adult carer and would like to know more about the service we provide, then please get in touch.

Our Young Adult Carer Group

Our young adult carer group meets on the last Friday of every month from 3:30 until 5pm.

Every session hosts a different fun activity with a lovely group of fellow carers. Have a look at the calendar to see what we’re up to soon.

About our support and services

  • A carer is a person of any age who provides unpaid care and support to a spouse, partner, relative, friend or neighbour, who cannot manage to live independently without the carer’s help. This may be due to frailty, illness, disability or addiction.

    If you find yourself helping someone in this capacity, no matter how much or how little, then you are a carer.

  • Carers of West Lothian are happy to provide support for any of your questions!

  • As an unpaid carer, you are entitled to a break from your responsibilities.
