Carers Rights Day 2025
Unpaid carers in West Lothian are recognised on Carers Rights Day 2025
If you provide care or support for a relative/friend/neighbour, join us at Strathbrock Partnership Centre between 1pm-3pm this Carers Rights Day. There’s opportunity to learn more about your rights as a carer, how to get help with legal and financial matters, plus lots of information about local services that could support you.
CoWL is highlighting the invaluable role of unpaid carers and advocating for greater levels of investment as they mark annual Carers Rights Day on Thursday, 20th November 2025.
As we approach the Scottish Parliament Election in May 2026, it is vital that action is taken to ensure unpaid carers of all ages - now and in the future - get the rights and support they need and deserve. Scotland’s unpaid carers continue to make a vital contribution valued at £15.9 billion annually, and Carers Rights Day emphasises the urgent need to provide them with essential rights based support to protect their own health and wellbeing.
CoWL has invited local elected representatives to meet unpaid carers, listen to their stories, and hear about the key improvements that could help support the estimated 800,000 unpaid carers in Scotland who give their time and energy to care for family members and friends.
In turn, the events provide a platform for unpaid carers to share the critical issues that they face, such as financial insecurity and access to breaks, and emphasise the importance of sustained funding for local carer organisations which provide lifeline services.
Unpaid carers will be encouraging all decision makers attending these events to take a stand on several key policy areas. This includes making a commitment to champion to ensure unpaid carers are supported, can stay well and are financially secure.
