Best Summer Ever with Our Young Carers
This summer, our Young Carer Service delivered a programme packed with adventure, laughter, and unforgettable memories for 75 young carers. From the thrill of surfing at Lost Shores to the peaceful time alpaca trekking, every activity was designed to give our young carers a well-deserved break — and a chance to simply be children and young people.
We kicked off the programme by attending the annual Young Carer Festival in Fife. We went den building, hosted a Primary School Fun Day where creativity and teamwork took centre stage, and enjoyed a calming visit to an alpaca farm. Axe throwing tested focus and precision in the most fun way possible!
Our sibling groups had a lovely day at Mill Farm, meeting animals and spending quality time together, followed by some fun at an archery session.
Here’s what some of our young carers had to say:
“I hadn’t surfed before — it was so much fun! I felt amazing, and I even managed to stand up!” – Age 11
“The alpacas were so cute, and I loved walking with them. It was the calmest I’ve felt in ages.” – Age 8
“The festival was amazing. I made new friends, and my favourite part was the silent disco. I loved it!” – Age 14
This summer wasn’t just about activities — it was about making friends, taking a break from caring responsibilities, and creating happy memories that will stay with our young carers for years to come.
We’ve had the best summer ever, and we’re incredibly thankful to the West Lothian Summer Programme Grant for funding this, and to our dedicated staff and volunteers who made it all possible.
