From St John’s Hospital to GP Practices Across West Lothian
Behind every patient, there is often a carer and the CoWL Health Project is helping to make sure they are supported too.
The CoWL Health Project is at St John’s Hospital to make sure carers and families get the right support at the right time. Whether someone is looking after a family member, helping a friend, or juggling caring responsibilities alongside work and family life, the project helps connect them with information, advice and local services.
From promoting carers' rights to signposting wellbeing support, the project is all about helping carers feel recognised, valued and supported. A friendly conversation at the hospital can often be the first step to accessing practical help, reducing isolation and improving wellbeing.
The team is also working closely with GP practices across West Lothian to help identify and support carers in their local communities. If you’re an unpaid carer, make sure your GP practice knows about your caring role. Being identified as a carer on your medical record can help ensure you receive appropriate information, support and consideration for your own health and wellbeing.
By working closely with NHS staff and local organisations, the CoWL Health Project is helping to make St John’s Hospital not just a place for treatment, but a place where carers can find support too.
💙 Are you an unpaid carer? Say hello if you spot the team around the hospital, they’re always happy to chat and help point you in the right direction!
