Caring for someone with cognitive changes
We are actively supporting over 400 families currently within our MIST project. This is our Memory Information Support Team and supports those caring for someone who may be experiencing memory difficulties or have received a recent dementia diagnosis. Supporting unpaid carers and wider family members both practically and emotionally with a strong focus on ‘future planning’.
Offering both home visits, one-to-one support and a range of workshops, monthly support group for those at an ‘earlier stage’ of caring for someone with cognitive changes.
Many opportunities we have upcoming are open to both unpaid carers and the person they support to attend jointly within the MIST project. We do this to ensure that they feel safe in the knowledge that they don’t need to leave their loved one alone, they too can enjoy some of our groups, activities and social opportunities and meet others (like carers can) living with changes and extend their social supports locally. OPAL provide social supports whilst CoWL/MIST offer unpaid carer support at our carer/cared for opportunities.
Upcoming sessions within MIST include:
6 weekly workshops based around ‘preparing for the future’ which will include dementia awareness and keeping safe, well and independence at home for all family members involved.
Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT) – 2 x Saturday sessions coming up in August
Herbert Protocol & Emergency Planning Training – held in conjunction with Police Scotland and MIST we will shortly be offering this training to all registered carers with planned sessions for September and November 2026.
Monthly ‘Cuppa & Chat’ group held at Craigsfarm Hub in Livingston
