Young Carers Summer Round-up Use

As our term-time young carer groups start up again, we thought we’d look back at the summer and what a grand time we had! Our summer programme spanned over a month of the holidays and included activities for all ages.

We kicked things off with two visits to Wee Eden farm to visit the alpacas. The trips involved the opportunity to feed and pet the alpacas, meet some very sweet goats along with the chance to do some arts and crafts. Our hosts at Wee Eden were very attentive and knew exactly how to keep the young ones entertained!

Our next visit took us to WeExspresif in Livingston for a stop-motion animation workshop. This was a great opportunity for the young carers to get creative, and explore their own ideas. It was amazing to see how different each group’s animations turned out, and we were impressed with how engrossed they all were. Have a look at their animations:

During the 3rd week, we took a trip to the Sky Livingston to take part in their ‘Sky Academy’—this was the chance to record, edit and star in your very own news report! They had all of the up-to-date technology, and despite how high-tech it was, the kids got to grips with it all very quickly. They did such a good job that we’re expecting to see some of their faces on Sky News any day now!
